Arizona State, Feb. 8

Iowa ran its winning streak to 10 by claiming nine individual victories in a 36-3 whipping of Arizona State in Glendale.

The Hawkeyes picked up pins from Jay Borschel and Matt Fields and Brent Metcalf ran his record to 22-1 and his winning streak to 19 by handling Jerrad Trulson in a 20-4 technical fall at 149.

“I wrestled the match I wanted to wrestle,” Metcalf said. “I didn’t get the pin like I wanted to, but it’s all right. It’s important to get kids tired and really build your lead and score points.”

All of the victories didn’t come easy. Third-ranked Charlie Falck edged No. 14 Anthony Robles 8-6 at 125. Falck jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Robles turned the Iowa junior twice in the second period to seize a 6-2 advantage. Falck, however, charged back with an escape and a takedown late in the second period and another takedown in the third to pull out the win.

Dan LeClere needed an overtime takedown to pull out a 10-8 win against Chris Drouin at 141. Ryan Morningstar posted a major decision win at 157 and Phil Keddy, Chad Beatty and Joey Slaton notched victories by decision. Arizona State prevented the shutout when senior Patrick Pitsch topped Jake Kerr 3-1 in overtime.
