Indiana, Feb. 15
Charlie Falck knocked Angel Escobedo from the ranks of the unbeatens and Iowa knocked out Indiana by winning eight matches on its way to a 28-7 victory against the Hoosiers.
Third-ranked Falck ignited the Hawkeyes in the opening bout with a 4-2 win against No. 2 and previously-undefeated Escobedo at 125 pounds at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Falck’s victory set the tone for dual. Dan LeClere won by technical fall, Brent Metcalf, Jay Borschel and Phil Keddy posted major decision victories, Chad Beatty rallied for a win at 197 and Matt Fields capped the dual with a decision at heavyweight.
Falck scored a first-period takedown and never trailed against Escobedo, the Midlands champion.
“I knew I beat him last year, and mentally, that kind of helps because you know you did it once and you can do it again,” Falck said.
LeClere racked up 23 points on his way to a technical fall against Scott Kelly at 141. Metcalf continued his tear through the Big Ten with a 19-6 win against Kurt Kinser at 149.
Borschel methodically picked apart Trevor Perry for an 11-3 win at 174. Keddy provided another glimpse of his vast improvement in a 17-5 beating of Marc Bennett at 184.
