1927-2006. State legislator, builder of about 600 local homes, owned Iowa City Ready Mix and Old Capitol Motors, as well as the construction company bearing his name. An Oklahoma native, he served as a Marine (1945-49) and for Korean duty (1950-51) before coming to Iowa City in 1952, the same year he wed Edna Bontrager of rural Kalona. A Mennonite and father of three, he developed a reputation for building quality homes and light commercial buildings. A local rarity, he served as a Republican legislator (1967-68). Board service included Mercy Hospital and UI foundations, Oaknoll and Hills Bank.
