Isaac Wetherby

1819-1904. Pioneer artist and photographer, left the first photograph of Old Capitol (1854) taken soon after his arrival during the infancy of the age of photography. Works from his Clinton Street studio during the 1860s and 1870s provide a rare look at early Iowa City through studio and outdoor photographs, as well as in oil paintings, including a campaign portrait of Abraham Lincoln. A local park now is named for this pioneer, who moved to Rock Valley and later to Kansas. His 935 E. Market St. home was relocated in 2008 to 611 N. Governor St., restored and modernized.
