Frank Seiberling Jr.

1908-1990. Distinguished art historian, director of UI’s School of Art and Art History (1959-76), led efforts which built UI’s art museum in 1968-69. He came to head the UI art department from a similar position at Ohio State (1946-59). After earning an undergraduate degree at Princeton, he studied further in Europe and served as Army interpreter in Italy during World War II, then earned a doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1948. He and master gardening wife, Nancy (Project GREEN co-founder), raised four children in a stunning home overlooking Coralville Reservoir, which fire destroyed about 2007.
