Dick Schwab

Age: 57. Mild-mannered volunteer, rural Solon hands-on barn builder, has impacted numerous local community organizations since arriving in 1984 for work at NCS-Pearson. With his retirement in 2000 at age 48, he pledged to himself to volunteer a third of his time. A Minnesota native and educated there as an accountant with an MBA, he was the Press-Citizen’s 2001 Person-of-the-Year. Solon School Board, Solon Library, United Way, Friends of Hospice, Mercy Hospital board, Johnson County Heritage Trust, he has trained himself on his 92-acre tract southwest of Solon as a master round-barn craftsman, his latest effort a 100-foot-diameter Stone City limestone “Celebration” jewel.
