Raymond (Ray) Pacha

1917-1973. Catholic priest considered the “catalyst behind Regina being built,” came to St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City in 1946 and during 13 years became a leader in centralizing Catholic education here. Educated at St. Ambrose (B.A. 1937), and St. Paul (Minn.) Seminary, he was ordained at Davenport in 1941. He also served parishes in Fort Madison, Muscatine, North English and Tipton. With a pipe and booming voice as trademarks, he helped raise the $900,000 that building Regina High School cost in 1957-58, later expanded to junior high (1972) and elementary. A monument near Regina High’s entrance commemorates his effort.
