William "Bill" Nusser
1925-2004. Owned Hands Jewelry, worked in “mediation” discussions on urban renewal and with Vietnam War student protestors during the 1968-73 period, chairman of UI Alumni Association (1974-77), founding member (1963) of UI Committee on Human Rights, and served on city’s Design Review Board during 1971. Educated at City High and UI (B.A., 1949), he became a motorcycle aficionado later in life. He joined Hands in 1949, then operated by his step-father, “Babe” Hands, who in turn had taken it from his father, John Hands, who acquired it in 1907. The current owner is Bill Nusser Jr.
