Richard "Dick" Myers
Age: 75. Coralville councilman (1969-76) and mayor (1976-78), Johnson County supervisor (1982-91), six-term state legislator (1994-2004) including minority whip, exercised strong influence in area Democratic politics for nearly four decades, including as an Obama delegate to the National Democratic Convention. A 1951 City High and subsequent Kirkwood alum, he built Hawk I Truck Stop in Coralville as his primary business (1961-2000), and Hawk I Harley Davidson (since 1994). Considered tough, fair and caring, he was noted for picking his fights carefully, with an eye toward winning. His volunteer service includes both MECCA (1976-95) and chamber (1990-92) boards.
