Marc Moen
Age: 56. Has altered the Iowa City skyline with his seven-level Whiteway, eight-floor Vogel House, and 13-floor Plaza Towers projects. His proposals include two more tall structures to supplement a portfolio that includes historic Blackstone and Brewery Square. He came from Sioux City to UI law school in 1976. Partnering with a brother and former wife, Monica, a former Iowa City planning employee, he has introduced contemporary and ultra-modern design among older downtown structures, creating both praise and criticism. Former City Planning Director Karin Franklin once observed, “One reason Moen is successful is he understands perspectives other than his own.”
