Ralph Miller
1919-2001. Iowa basketball coach (1964-70), built one of the greatest scoring juggernauts in NCAA history (14-0 Big Ten record while averaging 103 points) and crowded the old Field House. He established winning traditions that ran through Lute Olson’s tenure to the 1983 opening of Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where 15,500 seats rank it among the nation’s 15 largest university arenas. A Kansas native and father of four, his six-season record at Iowa was 95-51, including two Big Ten titles and an NCAA tournament berth. When he retired from Oregon State in 1989, his career record ranked him seventh among all-time coaches.
