William "Bill" Meardon
1919-1997. Admitted to law practice during 1948, represents the plethora of local attorneys who provide intellect and legal training to settle myriad local issues, and to project the Iowa City area onto the state and national scene. He played sax and clarinet in Bill Meardon and His Orchestra, a long-lived local “big band” formed among City High students during 1936. With an easy-going sense of humor, he represented city government as independent counsel during stormy urban renewal battles, losing a case before the Iowa Supreme Court when “I was so absolutely sure I was right.”
