Robert Larson
1898-1986. Iowa Supreme Court justice (1953-71) and chief justice (1959-61), Iowa City lawyer and city attorney (1937-41), Iowa attorney general (1947-53) , rattled Iowa gambling and alcohol abuse as Iowa attorney general, triggering raids across Iowa, including such places as Johnny’s in Tiffin (later The Lark), Elks Club and Mayflower Inn in Iowa City where abuse was rampant. The Larson crusade helped chart a course toward modernization of liquor and gambling laws in Iowa. A Naval veteran and father of four, he was a Fairfield native educated at Parsons College there, at Chicago University, and UI law school.
