Age: 91. Nationally recognized leader in the field of heritage conservation, she directed restoration of Old Capitol during 1975-1976, then authored an authoritative history of the structure and its use, titled “Old Capitol, Portrait of an Iowa Landmark.” She directed continued preservation efforts until 1999. A Mt. Vernon native and daughter of a noted authority on local American Indian archaeology and burial mounds, her academic credentials were created in Mt. Vernon, Madison and Florida, before joining the UI faculty during 1951. Her book, “Nineteenth Century Home Architecture of Iowa City,” is a local jewel.
