Michael Kattchee
Age: 78. Coralville mayor (1977-93) and councilman (1967-76), helped shepherd modernization of Coralville government to serve growth, separating city administration from the mayor’s executive functions. He helped hire the first three city managers, including current long-serving Kelly Hayworth. A native of Lithuania, he fled Soviet Russian occupation of that Baltic state, arriving locally with his family in 1951, and moving to Coralville during 1960. While doing engineering design for Hunter Manufacturing, he served on planning and zoning, then was defeated in a first council race during 1963. He and wife, Dolores, a retired public school teacher, raised five children.
