Jim Fausett
Age: 78. Mayor of Coralville since 1996 and council member for 18 years before that, has helped shepherd city government through two major floods, abandonment of a proposed indoor rainforest, purchase and clearing of some 15 acres along Interstate 80 for redevelopment, opening a regional shopping mall, record construction, and a skyrocketing population from 7,000 to approaching 20,000 during his time in City Hall. A University of Missouri graduate, he landed in Coralville in 1959, and for 30 years worked as services manager for the UI College of Dentistry, while the Korean War veteran and wife Carol raised four children.
