James Arthur “Jim” Clark

Age: 70. Developed and owns more Iowa City real estate than anyone else (301 parcels assessed at $93.6 million), providing housing to more than 1,000 university students, as well as businesses, mostly in the downtown area. The Michigan City, Ind., native and Component Homes cost estimator (1960s), Clark redeveloped urban renewal ground (1978) as Pentacrest Apartments along Burlington Street straddling Capitol. With wife, Loretta, plus sons Bryan, Joseph and Jeffrey, family partnerships center on Associated University Realtors (AUR). Among recent projects: Writers Square at Market and Linn, apartments-offices at Court and Clinton, and redeveloping former Carnegie library into apartments. He is also a quiet philanthropist to local causes.
