1910-1981. Muscatine industrialist and entrepreneur, never resided locally, but his personal and foundation gifts to the University of Iowa, currently exceeding $100 million, have substantially impacted elements from sports to medicine, and art to public health. A wing of the UI Art Museum, a pavilion at UI Hospitals and Clinics, the Carver-Hawkeye Arena, College of Public Health, and the College of Medicine are among his beneficiaries. Former UI president Sandy Boyd said of Carver: “His generosity helped shape the university that we have today.”
