Tim (Clement) Brandt
1930-2008. Eight-year councilman and mayor (1969-70), provided legendary candor and humor that often relieved tensions during heated debates on urban renewal and the Vietnam-era student demonstrations on campus and downtown. He also chaired the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission, being instrumental in development of ball diamonds at Mercer and City parks. The father of eight, all of whom reside locally, he was an avid proponent of Regina Catholic School, where he headed both the school board and foundation. He served the boards at Mercy Hospital, Goodwill and Systems Unlimited, and as district chairman of Boy Scouts.
