Eddie Anderson

1900-1974. A morning physician at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and afternoon football phenomenon, he coached the legendary 1939 “Ironmen” team to a Big Ten title and national glory, headed by Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick, for whom the stadium is now named. During eight seasons separated by World War II Army medical duty, the Oskaloosa native compiled a 35-33-2 record at Iowa. As a player, he won All-America honors at Notre Dame under coach Knute Rockne, with his only loss during three seasons being a 10-7 victory by Iowa. He also was a player/coach for the Chicago (now Arizona) Cardinals.
